Decorating a kid’s room is a task that never really ends. As they get older, their tastes will change – and so too will their bodies. At one point, they might be happy with a little bed in the corner of a room whose walls are covered with dinosaurs. But after a time, this might not hold quite the same appeal.
Let’s take a look at some of the ways in which we might keep a kid’s bedroom in the right shape as they get older.
Updating The Colour Scheme
Pastel shades are a great choice for a first bedroom, but they give off a pre-school vibe that might become irritating after a few years. Let your children have some input into the colour scheme of their room, but don’t allow them entirely free reign to choose, as very loud, bright colours will make it difficult for them to get to sleep. Most people prefer greens to help them sleep, but everyone’s a little bit different. If you want to put a little bit of boldness in there, leave it for the accent pieces like curtains, bedsheets and blinds – the things which can be easily swapped out further down the line.
Ditching The Theme
When children are very young, they might enjoy a room that’s decorated after a particular theme. This might be space, fairy-tale castles, or a favourite sports team. But when they reach a certain age, such things will tend to appear suddenly very childish. Swap them out for blank walls, leaving room for hanging posters and paintings.
Add Some Stylish Accessories
The addition of a few subtle touches can lend a room bags of character. Christmas tree lights (provided they’re all the same colour) and a few textured blankets and sheepskin rugs can have exactly the required effect.
A Desk For Schoolwork
Among the most important items of furniture in a child’s bedroom (besides the bed itself) is a desk. Here, they’ll be able to attack the homework they’ve been given, and pursue their creative interests. A workspace at home should be kept clean and tidy, and it should provide just the inspiration required to get through the task.
Rugs
If you’d like to transform the look of a room, then the addition of a new rug can help you to do it in a matter of mere moments. If there’s already a large rug in there, then you might swap it out for a new one. If the room has hardwood floors, then you’ll need to be aware of the danger of young children slipping; fortunately, you’ll find sticky pads available which help to avoid this very problem.
