Buying the perfect carpet can be quite difficult sometimes. There are so many different things to consider – not just measurements and finding the right colour to go with your decor. So how do you pick the perfect carpet for you and your home?
Here are my top tips for picking the right carpet for you.
First Things To Consider
Whilst you may be tempted to head out and buy it straight away, there are certain considerations that have to be taken into account. How much footfall will the room have in which you lay the carpet? What room is it in – you may want a softer pile for a bedroom but something a little different for downstairs. You will want to check how durable or dense the carpet is and the colour is an important consideration when it comes to durability too – darker colours are best for rooms with a lot of footfall and lighter colours for bedrooms.
Why Do You Want It?
Is carpet the right flooring option for you? Many people choose carpet as it tends to be a lot warmer than wooden flooring unless you have underfloor heating. If you know you’ll be able to keep up with the upkeep of carpet, then it may just be the option for you.
Get Some Samples
Before making a decision, ask the retailer if you can try a couple of samples. You can take them home to see what colours work best and how well it reacts to your tread. Try to take a variety of colours, a variety of types and a variety of materials so you can compare and see which one will suit your home best.
Take Some Measurements
You want to know how much you will need so it is important to take some measurements so you know exactly how much you need to purchase. Note the measurements down, especially if you are buying carpet for more than one room. You don’t want to be using guesswork when buying carpet.
Think About What Type You Want
There are different types to think of – woven or tufted. Woven carpets are made using traditional loomed methods and have a premium finish whereas tufted is more popular and easier to manufacture.
Do You Know What Material You Want?
Did you know that there are so many different materials to choose from? It all depends if you want natural material or synthetic. Those you can choose from include wool (which is naturally flame-retardant) and nylon which is easy to clean. With such a wide variety of materials to choose from, you need to do your research to work out what is best for you.
Work Out Your Budget
There is no point choosing a carpet if it is completely out of your price range. Know what budget you have and how far you can stretch that budget before you make any decisions. Carpet is an investment so make sure you are investing wisely.
These are my top tips for choosing the right carpet for your home. Do you have any other suggestions?
