How To Finish Decorating A Room

Lounge Redecoartion

If you enjoy decorating your room or are into home interiors you may already know this but there are a number of things you can do to ensure your room has those finishing touches to make it look stylish and complete. From those decorative touches such as artwork and photos to fixtures, fittings and furnishings – here is my guide to how to finish off decorating a room.

Don’t Leave Anything Unfinished

Firstly when decorating a room, ensure everything is finished off beautifully. It’s those finishing touches that make a room complete. Have you painted the walls but left the radiators unpainted? Have you replaced the carpets but left the scruffy skirting boards unfinished? It’s these things that can really finish off a room and give it an air of class.

A Statement Piece Works Wonders

A statement piece or focal point works wonders in a room. From an incredible fireplace to an amazing table, or a dramatic wall with bold detailed wallpaper,  can all add a focus to a room. Why not create a gallery wall with your favourite prints for example?

Flooring Is Essential

Ensure you leave enough budget for flooring when you decorate a room. You don’t have to replace everything but freshen it up at the very minimum. For example, give the carpet a clean if you are on a strict budget, or buy some big fluffy rugs in complimentary tones. Of course, if you have the money, buy a new carpet, but don’t scrimp on an underlay or it won’t feel cushioned underfoot.

Dress The Windows

Finish off the windows with your choice of curtains or blinds. Roman blinds or window shutters are a modern take on curtains. If you are buying curtains, think of dressing the whole window space. If you are not sure how to measure for curtains, check out a ‘how-to’ guide on YouTube or get them measured professionally. Curtains are expensive and you don’t want to make a mistake in measuring.

Personal Objects

Decorating your room with photos and wall art are a way to personalise your room and put your own stamp on the decor. If you are into photography, why not have a canvas print made of your photos? I have a photo taken from the Empire State Buiding that hangs proudly on my lounge wall. Or maybe you have trinkets from your travels or craftwork that you adore, so display them proudly in your home.

Lighting Is Important

There should be different types of lighting in a room to create a great ambience. Think of using a mixture of downlights, uplights, ceiling lights, floor lamps and table lamps. A dimmer switch is useful to create that cosiness at night. Lighting can make or break the decor of a room so be sure to consider it and what lighting you need for any tasks you wish to do.

Houseplants Are Great

Houseplants as well as purify the oxygen in the air can really add to the ambience of a room.  A mix of plants can be good – choose leafy green plants and then add some colourful flowers to brighten and fragrant the room. Almost every room will benefit from the addition of a houseplant or two.

So these are my ideas on how to finish off decorating a room. Let me know, do you like home decorating? How do you finish off a room?
